The Next Dragon Ball Super Arc

New information about the direction of Dragon Ball Super’s story has arrived via the series’ official website. Check out the very telling visual that accompanied the announcement.

You can check out the official site here in Japanese, but here’s a quick run-down of the new arc. “According to an invitation that Goku gets, Zeno-sama is starting a martial arts tournament between all the universes called the Tournament of Power – but it is the beginning of universal destruction. Something awaits the winners and losers of this tournament. What will become of this fierce team battle between each universe’s elite warriors?”

We’ve known for a while now that another tournament style arc was on its way courtesy of the great Zeno-sama. Fortunately it looks like it may have some greater consequence than just a test of strength, although the previous tournament offered the same kind of premise as well. It definitely did not turn out to be as dire as was once thought. Seeing the team assembled for this arc is quite something though. There are several characters present that have not done anything in quite a while (hello Android 17!?) or have become mostly obsolete (sorry anyone not Goku or Vegeta). The full cast includes Majin Buu, Krillin, Androids 17 & 18, Goku, Vegeta, Gohan, Master Roshi, Tien (Tenshinhan), and Piccolo. Could this finally be Gohan’s return to form that we have all been waiting for? Tune in after an unspecified number of filler episodes to find out. Best guess is in the new year.
