Fall 2016 Weekly Reactions (Oct 30 – Nov 5)

It’s the end of October, and you know what that means. Cheap candy on November 1st. I’ve already seen some pretty great costumes out there – as if anime fans needed another reason to cosplay. (Update Nov 04: Hibike! Euphonium 05)

As for anime, there hasn’t really been all that much in the Halloween theme this year. That could be a product of my own viewing habits, or the fact that the holiday itself is just starting to really catch on in Japan. It would be hard to imagine saiyans and gods pausing their battle for some candy.

Revere Him! Praise Him! Fusion Zamasu’s Explosive Birth!!
Summary: Although there was some fun action, and a momentary take-down of Zamasu, nothing of consequence happened in this episode until the last two minutes. You could just read the title and be good to go for next week.
6.5/10 (95% Filler)

It’s more fun when they dance.

Hibike! Euphonium

Most Recent Episode: 05
“Miraculous Harmony”
Summary: A rare perfect, and well deserved. The emotions were high, and the payoff was grand. Basically band music porn – safe for work.

It’s not often that I give a 10, but this couldn’t have been any better. The balance of stress and inspirational build-up to the performance gave such an emotional charge to the event, and then even more character development payoff during the performance blew the roof off the hall. The animation was fantastic, including some impressively realistic sync that must have taken an immense amount of time and money to put together. If you’ve been on the fence about picking up this show because band music isn’t exactly your thing, I implore you to give it a go. It has so much to offer.
10/10 (Perfect)

And there’s still seven episodes left!?

“She’s Lost Control”
Summary: After several episodes filled with crazy twists and interesting character development, this seemed a little tame.

The pace really stalled in this one, for better or worse. The characters are still holding up pretty well, but we’ll need some answers soon for it all to keep working. Unlike the series above this, I’m feeling the mid-season vibes from this one. There’s still a lot of intrigue in the plot and character stories though, so I do predict improvement on the horizon.
6.8/10 (Average)

Everyone needs their tea and stress relief.

Keep checking back here for extra thoughts on shows not being covered by full reviews. (Unlikely with how busy my week as been.)
