Summer 2016 Weekly Reactions 10 (Sep 4-10)

It’s the tenth week of summer 2016. Are you already looking ahead to fall despite the epic conclusions that are coming soon to this season?

Despite being week ten, none of the series we’re following here are on their 10th installment (unless you count Re:Zero). Chock one up to strange episode organization. As per usual, be sure to click on the episode titles to read the full review and check out all the screenshots!

Dragon Ball Super 57 “The Immortal God: Zamasu Descended” – After episode 56’s fantastic twists and turns, this one just didn’t feel as magical. There was some spectacular action scenes, for a few seconds at a time, interspersed among a lot of horrible animation. Beyond the technical aspects, the story just didn’t go anywhere other than once again abandon the future. Vegeta gets absolutely owned again, but still has something left in him! And why is Trunks even competitive in this fight? Let’s just move on back to the mysteries and plot twists, please.
Episode Score: 6.8/10 (Fine)

The one amazing scene.

Re:Zero 23 “Nefarious Sloth” – This was a pretty fun outing. Ram is an even better character than I remembered, and Emilia is just as boring I remembered. We’re getting pretty close to a conclusion here, but they seem to be setting up Betelgeuse as the final boss, when it should definitely be something more to do with the actual mystery of this show. I can see too many episodes ahead here that there’s going to be an unresolved plot this season, but I’m also fine with it continuing in to the future. Oh and we haven’t seen the reincarnation ability in a while – throw that in for some drama!
Episode Score: 8.5/10 (Very Good)

Puck is the real champ here.

Mob Psycho 100 – 08 “Claw ~7th Division~” – This series is just so good. The comedy hits so well, and the drama is super effective. Action scenes are over the top in the best ways possible. I’m quite interested to see if this continues on in the future, as this is only a single division of a larger organization that Mob is, by chance mostly, taking down. They also have no clue what’s about to hit them.
Episode Score: 9.0/10 (Great)

Not even mini-boss level.

91 Days 09 “Black and Deep Desires” – Everything seems to be falling apart for Angelo/Avilio and Corteo, or is it? They’ve taken out two mob dons in a pretty short time, and Avilio is in the best position yet to take out the Vanetti. I say this every week, but this episode was extra Godfather. Despite that, its characters and betrayals carry the story all on its own, and it is legitimately fun to watch each week. Pretty interesting twist there at the end, but of the characters we knew of, the uncle seemed like a pretty likely candidate for uncertainty.
Episode Score: 8.4/10 (Very Good)

Shouldn’t you be doing homework or something? Too old for that? Yeah me too, but not extras this week.
