We’re at about the half-way point in the summer season. Where has the time gone!? Kids are heading back to school. Adults are heading back to school. But the anime keeps on rolling.

Re:Zero 20 “Wilhelm van Astrea” – The story of the master swords-people, the van Astreas, is quite the compelling love story. It’s too bad that it was condensed down to a few decent flashbacks featuring one of the most interesting characters this show has seen so far. For all that this series has going for it, the main characters really aren’t it. Subaru is on the upswing lately, but he’s still not great. And Emilia has been largely absent from all conflicts. As evidenced by this episode, the supporting characters (kind of still includes Rem) are really carrying the story and the world’s appeal. The women were on fire this week, and Theresia is their leading lady.

Mob Psycho 100 – 06 “Discord ~To Become One~” – A lot gets packed in to one of these episodes, yet it’s always so well put together and satisfying to experience. Reigen seemed to be the biggest joke of the series from the get-go, but he’s really shown his true colors as of late – he’s a great guy somehow! But the real focus of this episode is Mob’s brother, Ritsu. His interactions with both the student council and the awakening lab are two interesting sides of the same coin. He wants to go about rightfully gaining the powers his brother is a natural at, and at the same time can’t stand being the good guy anymore. Seems like it will work out somehow though, as he showed a hint of something deep inside. Also, Dimple is back!
Episode Score: 8.7/10 (Very Good)

91 Days 07 “A Poor Player” – Here we have the downfall of Frate, as it has been a long time coming. Pretty much everything he’s been up to has painted his eventual fall as glaringly obvious. This time we see Ronaldo passing him drugs of some kind, which clearly was help in his manipulation. He also couldn’t have possibly believed what he was doing for the best of the family. It’s always great that this show keeps on pulling big plot points out of nowhere, as it really needs it to stay interesting. This week was no different with the shake-up of the family dynamics. Looks like the Vanetti are in a good place going forward after dealing with their problems, and might have the opportunity to strike from the shadows against the Gallasia. If anything, Fio Vanetti should be the new don.
Episode Score: 7.8/10 (Good)
