Is it a long weekend where you are? Was it just one recently? What better time to catch up and binge some anime. Most of the shows are relaxing a bit this week on the drama front – opting for some final exposition before the big push to the finish!

Dragon Ball Super 44 “Seal of Planet Potaufeu. Secret of the Superhuman Water!” – By this point I’m assuming that Monaka is the only delivery guy that works for whatever company it is that he works for. Monaka has turned in to a rather entertaining side character at this point. It was fun seeing Trunks and Goten’s reactions to the situations they found themselves in. When locked in the back of Monaka’s truck, Trunks wisely decided not to just blow it up – his human side prevailed there. That super water was held in a rather normal looking container – like something you would just take out of your fridge. I really wonder how they got that stuff in there in the first place? Finally some cool fighting happened, even if only for a moment. Goten and Trunks could hand those bad guy’s butts to them on a platter without much effort, though. Definitely excited to see fake Vegeta and whatever fights ensue from that whole situation.

Re:Zero 08 “I Cried, Cried My Lungs Out, and Stopped Crying” – It would be quite the shock to see Rem and Ram again after what happened last week. Subaru has to build up all of his relationships again, and somehow get everyone to trust him. Odd though that he seems to be doing pretty much the same things as before, which all ended in their actions towards him being a ruse. Good thing he’s got shadow power, right? Wait, that sounds like a bad guy thing again, and it’s all debuffs! Puck and Emilia teasing Subaru about their love was perfect. Too bad he’s acting like a weirdo and extra suspicious now that he knows so much about everything around him. The Emilia lap-pillow scene really got a lot off of Subaru’s mind, and also endeared himself a little to Rem. Beatrice is my favorite character so far, for obvious reasons. She seems likely to be a powerful ally for Subaru throughout the rest of the series. Props to Rem and Ram for teasing him on the subject when he asked for a favor the next morning. Now let’s see if he can actually pull off his goals.

Mayoiga 09 “Freezing in the Moonlight” – I’m not going to even begin to try and understand why Judgeness no Jack (great name there) is a thing. It’s just another layer, adding on to a show that seems to be attempting to be complex and simple at the same time. As for the bus trip through the tunnel, the ‘monsters’ still seem to have some physicality to them. The others can feel when someone’s monster is attacking, yet can’t see them. Also, where did the bus driver go? Probably not important. Masaki notes the ‘sign’ carved in to a rock from possibly Reiji, but it really doesn’t make much sense. It’s not even really a warning about anything ahead of them. It’s really hard to be concerned about anything going on in this show, considering it’s all probably just a poorly stretched out ruse.

Kiznaiver 08 “Happy Times Don’t Tend to Last Very Long” – Well if it wasn’t clear from last week, they’re all friends now. So what’s the next logical steps? Time to start pairing them off and hooking them up. That might get a little complicated when it comes to a few of the love triangles/trapezoids. I’m really rooting for Tenga and Nico to do well, because their moments are just so cute. As for the Sonozaki intervention in the Chidori x Katsuhira pairing, she’s really just stirring up trouble for her own gain. She wants a connection, and she has one from the past with Katsuhira. Doesn’t even look like a very good one, either. If she was as bossy and controlling as she is now back then, I can understand why he doesn’t feel pain or have much emotion at all. This show will need to do a lot to redeem Sonozaki and make her worthy of my caring – or it could try and break the mold of anime cliche and have the guy finally choose the osananajimi. Wait, I guess Sonozaki is an even more childhood friend than Chidori. Interesting.

Flying Witch 08 “The Regular Customers” – We find ourselves where we left off in Cafe Concrucio. The actual staff arrives, to slight confusion among our cast. Sure they might look really similar as mother and daughter, but not everything has to be magic! To be fair, I would be assuming everything was as well. The cafe regulars are quite the crowd – a pair of ladybugs, a littler Veil of Darkness (who’s super kind and has candy), and a fox. I know that fox came in for its weekly helping of winter cherries, but it doesn’t hurt to get a nice massage while you’re at it. Everybody wants a turn – he just looks so soft! I’m sure there’s more to him, considering the OP and a very suspect character we have yet to meet. This world is just so magical, relaxing, and full of potential! Flying Witch keeps on delivering exactly what is needed of it.

Anne Happy♪ 01 “April 7: An Unfortunate First Day of School” – By recommendation, I checked out this series. The standard practices of cute girls doing cute things in short skirts are all there – a seemingly all-girl universe a la K-On!, each character model with a different color hair style, the dumb one, the smart one, the fragile one, the sporty one, and so on. I found some of the comedy quite well delivered, but I’ve also seen it all before. I’m starting to believe that every school has a secret class ranking system where you’re only a main character if you find yourself in the disenfranchised last class. This isn’t the one about trying to kill their alien teacher though (she’s way too scary to try). Safe to say I probably won’t be continuing this. If it ends up going anywhere deeply profound, someone please inform me.

Some other shows I’m looking to check out include Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress (Koutetsujou no Kabaneri) and My Love Story!! (Ore Monogatari!!). Check back for my first impressions on these in the future, and we’ll see where they go from there. Have a good, anime filled week everybody!
