Spring 2016 Weekly Reactions 02

The second week of Spring 2016 has come and gone – gotta calm down after all those premieres, and start building the plots!

Here’s our quick take of the shows that were watch at Clouded Anime this week! The second outing isn’t known to be the highest of points in any series, ever – but some solid showings kept things interesting.

Dragon Ball Super 38 – The Prince of the Saiyans gives his best shot at the latest 6th universe contender, but he is destined to always lose just for Goku to come in and save the day. I guessed that it could be time-leaping of some sort. Is Goku up to the task of using his brain a little bit and predicting his enemies moves? Seems so. Doesn’t seem to be much conflict to this arc though.
Episode Scores: 6.8/10 (Cloudy), 5/10 (J-san)

Re:Zero 02 – It took a lot of thought for him before he figured out that it was reincarnation. The show itself continues to be a pile of clichés, but the characters are entertaining – most notably Felt so far! And there seems to be more to come judging from the new OP and ED. The ability to reincarnate from the same point comes with a bit of a price, as in having more of a connection with others than they have with you (eg Steins;Gate). We’ll see how the issue of repetition is handled going forward. Will it go full Edge of Tomorrow?
Episode Score: 7.9/10

Mayoiga 03 – This show can be a chaotic mess at times. That’s also not necessarily a bad thing. With 31 (maybe 30, or 29) characters there seems to be a lot going on and complete discordance among the group. I can’t really cover all of the character interactions and events that happen in an episode like this; Mitsumune keeps trying to get up Masaki’s skirt, Maimai goes full tsundere, Valkana feels eternally responsible, the ‘leadership’ can’t handle anything, and Lion goes criminally under-used – just to point out a few. It’s like each character is bound to their one character trait and then pushes it to the extreme. If they did do any background checks on these people, it was for all the wrong reasons.
Episode Score: 7.2/10

Kiznaiver 02 – Sonozaki seems a little beyond crazy, continuing from last episode. Some of their secrets were fun, but several of them don’t seem nearly as important as others. It’s as if they needed to develop these characters, but only a few of them are dramatically important to the series. And the osananajimi confessed her love in the second episode! I think that’s a new world record.
Episode Score: 7.8/10

Flying Witch 02 – It’s hard to keep from smiling through this whole show. Chinatsu wears her emotions on her sleeve. She’s just so childishly honest it’s almost unbearably cute at times. She’s already become good friends with Mako, enough to include her in the pudding quota and call her by a shortened name. The harbinger of spring was quite the amusing character – hopefully he’ll be back! I’ll be looking forward to this at the end of each week. I can’t imagine how there will be any sort of conflict at all with the tone it has set so far – but I’m excited to find out.
Episode Score: 8.5/10
